Below are the definitions of t-test and analysis of variance in the words of Simon (2005):

t-test: Significance test that uses the t-distribution [bell-shaped distribution for determining significance of small samples] used to determine the significance of experimental results based on small samples (p. 96). Analysis of Variance (ANOVA): A statistical method for determining the significance of the differences among a set of sample means [averages] (p. 92).
