We know that nephrolithiasis has the potential to obstruct the ureter that is downstream from where the stone forms. That is why the patient has pain — the peristaltic movement of the ureter compressing on the stone. What is the process that leads to the stone formation? What education do we need to provide to patients because of that process once they have been identified as having a stone?
