2 DQ 2According to Whitney (2018), strategic planning is the process healthcare organizations use to determine goals for meeting the future needs of healthcare consumers as well as the planning and implementation of strategies to meet those goals.  Factors that influence future planning for organizations include healthcare trends, staffing, institution finances, facilities, and infrastructure.One text outlines one tool, the SWOT tool, which examines the strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities of an organization for strategic planning.  As an example, Anderson & Singh (2021) utilized SWOT analysis as a first stage in examining telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic in a rural healthcare facility to expand services while protecting patients and staff.  The authors identified strengths and weaknesses to the approach, such as continuity of care and discomfort with technology respectively (Anderson & Singh, 2021).  Additionally, opportunities, such as flexibility of appointments, and threats, such as lack of access to internet connections were identified (Anderson & Singh, 2021).  Weighing all these factors, the authors were able to determine that telehealth service was beneficial to patients and staff (Anderson & Singh, 2021).Discuss the purpose of strategic planning in a health care environment.
